Gotta love a Star Wars trailer that starts with giant space crabs—and a demonstration of how Omega (Michelle Ang) has clearly learned a lot since last season. She’s practically acrobatic in this opening scene, and that’s not even the trailer’s highlight. Gungi the Wookiee jedi? Towering dinosaur-like robot? (I think?) There’s too much to choose from!

When we last saw Clone Force 99, they were escaping the destroyed clone facility on Kamino, while clone scientist Nala Se was taken into custody by Imperial forces. The summary for season two explains:

When the new season opens, months have passed since the events on Kamino, and the Bad Batch continue their journey navigating the Empire after the fall of the Republic. They will cross paths with friends and foes, both new and familiar, as they take on a variety of thrilling mercenary missions that will take them to unexpected and dangerous new places.

This trailer promises both more of the same (more missions for Rhea Perlman’s Cid, for one!) and something new and delightful: The suggestion that more clones are questioning the control the Empire has over them, and specifically, having doubts about Order 66. Maybe we’ll see more surviving Jedi? We’ve already got Captain Rex and Commander Cody, and the first season featured a young Hera Syndulla in a prominent role; there’s no reason more fan favorites can’t show up.

The Bad Batch stars the incredible Dee Bradley Baker as all the clones. It comes from the minds of a whole gaggle of experienced Star Wars writers and producers, including executive producers Dave Filoni (The Clone Wars) and Athena Portillo (Rebels), head writer Jennifer Corbett (Star Wars Resistance), and supervising director Brad Rau (Rebels).

Kick off the new year with the clones when The Bad Batch returns on January 4th, 2023.
